The wood for Songs from the Woods was salvaged from a fallen spruce tree in the Kawartha Lakes region. Each piece of wood was worked and sanded to enhance the natural beauty of the grains. The use of acrylic paint further accentuates the concentric circles of the growth rings. We see them as sound waves, reminding us of the songs coming from the woods on our forest walks. At times we are surrounded by a boisterous symphony of chirps, chortles, hums, squeaks, rustles and whistles. At other times we are immersed in the quiet rhythm of ancient trees as they spin ancient tunes in dulcet harmonies. Time spent among the trees compels us to feel, ponder and connect with the natural world.
